Kelly grew up playing in Orchestras including the Seattle Youth Symphony. As an adult she played in the Bellevue Philharmonic, the Northwest Symphony Orchestra, the Sammamish Symphony, the Cascade Symphony, the Rainier Symphony, and local chamber orchestras. She studied music in college while on a music scholarship. She has taught private lessons and music fundamentals to students for 20 years within various capacities. Kelly is also a Montessorian with training in both the ECE and the Elementary levels. She holds Bachelor Degrees in Early Childhood Ed and Elementary Education. She also has a Master’s Degree in Literacy Education. Kelly homeschooled her own 3 children for a total of 10 years. Kelly’s husband; Kelly Kunz (yes they have the same name) teaches music at Bellevue College.
Kelly has been involved in education in some form or another for over 30 years. While home-schooling her three children, she founded Dancing Pines Montessori (originally named Well-Trained Mind Montessori). Kelly is an adjunct faculty member at Green River College in the Early Childhood Department. She has served on the board of the Pacific Northwest Montessori Association for over 10 years, with one of those years serving as President. She loves to teach and inspire Montessori teachers and future Montessori teachers in all areas, but especially in how to teach music in the classroom. She met her husband in college jazz band and they have been married for almost 30 years.
Kelly enjoys reading and yoga, and loves spending time traveling and playing with her Bernese Mountain Dog; Cooper, her long-haired, orange kitty; Hobbes, and her black cats Batman and Sarabella. She also loves her chickens, goats, alpacas, axolotl, snake, guinea pigs, bearded dragon, and tortoise!
